History
Pursuant to the resolution issued at the 220th meeting of the Council for the Expansion of Medical Sciences Universities, dated 11/08/1391, the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Research Center received preliminary approval from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. The Center commenced its activities in the same year at the School of Pharmacy, Zanjan University of Medical Sciences.
Benefiting from well-equipped laboratories and a team of young, specialized, and highly motivated faculty members, the Center has focused its activities on the expansion and development of emerging applications in pharmaceutical biotechnology. Through fundamental and applied research, it seeks to play an effective role in advancing knowledge, fostering scientific innovation, and improving community health.
About the Center
The Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Research Center of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences was established within the School of Pharmacy with the aim of developing knowledge and advanced technologies in biotechnology and pharmaceutical sciences. By drawing on specialized faculty members and capable researchers, as well as equipped laboratories, the Center
provides an appropriate platform for conducting both basic and applied researchs.

The Center’s primary areas of focus include: the design, development, and production of recombinant vaccines for infectious diseases (human and veterinary) and prevalent cancers; the application of biotechnology in the production of natural medicinal compounds; target discovery for cancer and rare diseases (pharmacogenetics); targeted therapies; and the identification of therapeutic targets for rare diseases and cancer.

Mission
The Center works to support, develop, and advance biotechnology in the country, and to strengthen research and development in life sciences through educational and research programs that are responsive to societal needs and guided by strategic research priorities.
Vision
The vision of the Zanjan Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Research Center is to become an advanced research center at the regional level—leading and influential in the design, development, and production of recombinant vaccines for infectious diseases (human and veterinary) and prevalent cancers; biotechnology-based production of natural medicinal compounds; target discovery for cancer and rare diseases (pharmacogenetics); targeted therapies; and the identification of therapeutic targets for rare diseases and cancer. The Center also seeks to expand collaboration with national and international researchers to promote research development and achieve advanced technologies.
