Zanjan University of Medical Sciences (ZUMS) has its seat as a paramount university amongst Iranian Medical Universities. Currently, we have more than 5000 students in Medical Sciences fields, more than 500 Faculty members and several research centers.

Endless and around- the –clock progress in communication technologies across the world and global availability of such networks have brought about outstanding changes in the world, which, in turn, can pose more demands for international scientific and research exchanges. So here in Zanjan University of Medical Sciences and in the department of the international relations office in line with the ministerial policy statement, similar to all other universities of medical sciences we are trying to expand international collaboration in the field of health sciences. Taking the illustrated reasons into account, the deemed strategies for ZUMS in terms of globalization and development of international activities have been planned and followed in 5 different areas. Focusing on health diplomacy and bilateral relations, improving quality of hospital services, development of health tourism, educational improvement, and provision of facilities for foreign students, promoting medical drug quality and equipment and exporting them are some of the most significant considerations in this area. Due to these reasons, international logistic chart has been gathered in order to recognize the potentialities and capacities to develop international relations with certain numbers of targeted countries. Likewise, our university takes steps to exchange the latest scientific findings and new technologies with the universities, institutions and international scientific organizations to set forth global ranking of the university and achieve international accreditation.

With the help of the skilled and efficient staff, promoting intra-sectional coordination, utilizing the latest technology, and attracting public contribution, we are to empower the population and better their lifestyle, as well as to elevate health indexes in the communities under our coverage. We would like to eradicate the injustice, and provide for client satisfaction in order to reach to our goals, and in further step to expand it in an international scale to give services to the people of surrounding countries and also any countries which would seek the best quality with the most affordable prices.

The city of Zanjan is located in the Northwestern region of Iran alongside the international transit road, and in a close proximity to provinces that share borders with the neighboring countries such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.

The University mainly focuses on three goals:

 

1. Graduate and postgraduate programs for training physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, and other health care specialists;
2.  Implementation of research programs;
3.  Providing treatment and health services.

ZUMS has a number of affiliated colleges that are subdivided into various departments and cover a wide range of fields in medical sciences: Faculty of medicine , Faculty of pharmacy , Faculty of health & paramedical sciences, Faculty of nursing & midwifery , Faculty of nursing-Abhar, Faculty of dentistry, International branch.

The educational deputy of University is interested in developing international academic collaborations and planning for bilateral or multilateral joint degrees and courses in particular undergraduate and postgraduate fields.

School of Pharmacy is a well equipped center to perform variety of research projects, including development of liposomal drug delivery system, modeling solubility, mechanisms of cell toxicity, development of plantin vitroculture, tissue engineering, pharmaceutical chemistry, and antimalarial drug studies.

Development Center for Pharmaceutical Technologies: established in the School of Pharmacy, it actively supports the researchers' projects and original findings.

Several research laboratories in the university, including the Central Research Lab, are equipped for experimental projects.

An international English journal, entitled: Controlled Release Journal, is currently published as an open access journal (http://www.cr-journal.com).

Another accredited journal called Journal of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences & Health Services is published in Persian with abstracts in English that are indexed in some data banks, including Scopus: (http://zums.zums.ac.ir/journal).

 

 

Journal of Medical Education, which currently publishes national articles on medical education.

Nursing and Midwifery Journal is another national publication that focuses on research in nursing and midwifery related issues.

Journal of Human, Environment and Health Promotion (JHEHP) is a quarterly open access, online & offline, peer reviewed journal published by Zanjan University of Medical Sciences (School of Public Health).

 

 

Journal of emergency care is to provide information about health care for emergency patients. Cardiovascular events, Accidents, and Cancers are the main intentions of this Journal.

 

 

 

Ø Treatment Services:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mousavi Hospital: ZUMS authorizes a number of teaching hospitals admitting out- and in-patient cases in several clinics and wards. This major hospital is a highly specialized training and treatment center with 540 fixed beds. This center, which is committed to provide services to the population of Zanjan and other neighboring provinces, was recognized as one of the best of its kind in the nation for its board of trustees in 2009 by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. The Iranian National Productivity and Business Excellence award was also given to this center in 2011.

Several clinics and wards provide different treatment services, including Neonatal Subspecialties with advanced apparatus, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatric Neurosurgery. Among various number of other clinics and treatment centers, Mammography and Painless Delivery can be referred to as the newly established ones.

Center of Cardiac Surgery: One of the best-equipped cardiac surgery and trauma centers in the country, which was established in 2007, is located in Mousavi Hospital.

The Cardiac Surgery with I.C.U wards maintaining the latest and state-of-the-art equipment is considered as a superior center and tends to compete with other similar centers across the country.

Hundreds of open heart surgeries, including coronary artery bypass, and aortic and mitral valve replacements have been performed in this center without any mortality during the operations.

Angiography Ward is also a complement to the center with the performance of angiography and angioplasty of the coronary and peripheral vessels, and congenital and non-congenital catheterization of the left and right chambers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vali-e Asr Treatment and Training Center: This is another major educational and treatment center that covers other clinical requirements concerning infectious diseases, metabolic disorders and diabetes clinic, internal medicine, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal disease, rheumatology, … etc.

Wound Clinic: This special clinic, which has recently started providing treatment services, was established in 2010 through collaboration with international consultants from world known centers such as U.S. Trinitas Medical Center.

Dental diseases treatment and health services are available in relevant centers authorized by the University.

Medical Tourism and Treatment Visit: The medical and treatment facilities available at ZUMS in Zanjan provide a great potential for attracting people in need of medical services from other countries, particularly neighboring countries and Middle East. Provision of these services for foreign visitors and tourists has already been started.
