History
The Zanjan Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology Research Center (ZPNRC) received its preliminary approval from the Council for the Expansion of Medical Sciences Universities on 23 June 2012 and subsequently obtained its final approval from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education on 28 October 2018.
About the Center
Established in 2012 at the School of Pharmacy, Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, the Center commenced its activities with the aim of advancing the short- and long-term policies and objectives set forth in the country’s Twenty-Year Vision Document—particularly those emphasizing the transformative role of nanotechnology in national development, wealth creation, and the improvement of people’s quality of life—through the application, dissemination, and further development of nanotechnology across diverse areas of pharmaceutical sciences.
The Center’s core efforts are grounded in the conviction that, with firm commitment, it is possible to develop effective solutions to the country’s economic, public health, and healthcare challenges not only within the field of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology, but also through convergence with related disciplines such as Biotechnology, Cognitive Science, and Information Technology. With the engagement of experienced and highly motivated faculty members, the Center’s overarching goal becoming a leading national research hub in pharmaceutical nanotechnology is increasingly attainable.
Vision
By 2030, the Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology Research Center will be recognized as a pioneering and influential center in knowledge generation and the development of pharmaceutical nanotechnology at the regional level, with the goal of improving public health and advancing emerging technologies.

Facilities
In collaboration with the Drug Control–Microbiology, Instrumental Analysis, Pharmaceutics, Toxicology, Nanotechnology, and Biotechnology laboratories, the Center is supported by a range of general-purpose equipment for human and microbial cell culture and for nanoparticle synthesis. Key instruments and facilities include a shaker incubator, centrifuge, fluorescence microscope, refrigerated centrifuge, inverted microscope, chemical fume hood and laminar flow hood, flow cytometer, oven, ultrasonic bath, and water bath, among others. Leveraging this infrastructure, the Center is actively conducting research and technology-development projects focused on the advancement of targeted drug delivery systems as well as the introduction and development of novel wound dressing technologies.

- Signing of more than 10 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between the Center and other universities/research institutes nationwide
- More than 2,630 citations (in 2025) to publications authored by the Center’s members
- H-index of 60 (in 2025)
- Publication of over 340 papers, including 96 international publications
- Organization of multiple scientific and educational workshops
- Visits to pharmaceutical companies and participation in pharmaceutical exhibitions
