History of the Central Library

The Central Library of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences was officially inaugurated on August 1, 2017, in the presence of the then Minister of Health and Medical Education, Dr. Hashemi. The library building, with a total floor area of 3,063 square meters, is located on the university campus and comprises two floors.

The library serves students, faculty members, university staff, and the children of faculty and staff members of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences. Currently, the library has 2,950 active members. One of its notable features is the open-stack system, which allows users direct access to library resources.

The primary mission of the Central Library is to support educational and research activities by providing the scientific resources and information required by faculty members, students, and university personnel. In addition, as the central coordinating body of the university’s library system, it oversees and manages the operations of all affiliated libraries.

At present, the Central Library and its affiliated branches utilize the web-based Farakavosh library management system, which is supported on an annual basis. In line with expanding electronic resources, the library has subscribed to the Gigalib databases and has also acquired a selection of academic references and textbooks in electronic format (E-books), which are made available to users upon request.

Core Responsibilities of the Central Library

• Providing required information resources for faculty members, students, staff, physicians, and researchers in a timely manner
• Developing and effectively organizing library collections to enhance accessibility, taking into account the diverse needs of users
• Supporting scientific, research, and cultural activities in alignment with the strategic objectives of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences
• Promoting the professional and academic development of faculty members, students, physicians, researchers, and staff
• Establishing and maintaining the library website and utilizing various approaches to introduce library services and facilities to users
• Updating and completing bibliographic records and information within the digital library system
• Structuring and allocating appropriate space to different sections of the library
• Conducting periodic weeding of outdated materials and updating library resources
