Director General of the Office for Women and Family Affairs, Zanjan Province: Medical universities are key pillars in promoting population rejuvenation

Dr. Giti Karimkhanlouei, Director General of the Office for Women and Family Affairs in Zanjan Province, emphasized the pivotal role of medical universities in advancing population rejuvenation policies. She noted that, given the aging trend in Iran and its consequences—including a shrinking workforce and reduced social vitality—attention to these policies is an undeniable necessity. On Tuesday, December 1, during her visit to the booth of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences at the “Honor and Progress” exhibition, Dr. Karimkhanlouei highlighted the role of medical universities across all stages from birth to treatment, stressing two key measures. The first measure, she explained, is the expansion of infertility treatment centers nationwide. Currently, some provinces face shortages of such facilities, forcing many families to travel to Tehran and bear significant financial burdens. The second measure involves preventing unnecessary abortions through educational workshops, counseling, and the provision of medical and health support. These initiatives aim to encourage and empower healthy mothers to preserve their pregnancies.

Dr. Karimkhanlouei also referred to the establishment of the Provincial Population Rejuvenation Headquarters under the supervision of the national task force, with participation from various institutions including the University of Medical Sciences. She announced the annual Population Rejuvenation event in December, during which active contributors and staff from executive bodies will be recognized for their efforts. She further pointed to the activities of the provincial headquarters and its seven specialized committees—including those focused on media, elites, and successful managers—stating that these coordinated efforts, with the participation of governmental and non-governmental organizations, can significantly advance the goals of population rejuvenation and family support. It is noteworthy that the “Honor and Progress” exhibition, held from December 1 to 4 at the Caspian International Exhibition Center, focuses on marriage, family, population rejuvenation, and sports. Zanjan University of Medical Sciences has set up an active booth offering specialized counseling services on infertility and childbearing. In addition, 30 artworks on the themes of childbearing and population rejuvenation are on display at the booth.
